This circular platter with radial relief ribbing features a yellow crown with blue stones and the manganese initials “MF” painted on white glaze. The high footed bowl with a broad ribbed rim is a typical form that became

a regular fixture in the early years of Haban faïence production in the late 16th century and continued to be produced for the duration of the Haban cultural period. The conservative character of the decoration, reduced to foliage or architectural elements, is also typical. Heraldic motifs and monograms found their way into bespoke collections produced for local aristocrats and later for bourgeois families. (lmp)
